End Of Term Bulletin (1st term) 2019/2020

We give  Glory  to God   our Father for yet another successful term.  We thank you our esteemed parents for your support and cooperation throughout the term.  The theme for the term was “Building good character for a better tomorrow”.  I am most elated to inform you that we recorded fewer cases of indiscipline and immoral behaviour.  Our students behaved better, this was demonstrated by their conduct in the last examination.  I give kudos to our untiring teachers,  we had less complaints  on students copying notes and doing their assignments.  We pray this continues in the subsequent terms.

This term was full of academic and extra-curricular activities.  The focus was on restoring student’s confidence and self-esteem through debate, paper presentations, quizes and public speaking exercises.  This was buttressed in classes by subject teacher’s especially English language, on the assembly ground and at their various clubs.

Academic Achievements

As a result of the hard work and dedication of teachers and students, the school was well represented in different competitions.  First and foremost, at the last week of the third term 2018/2019, Joshau Bada a student in (JS 3 then) represented the school and the Northern region in the National spelling bee in Akwa – Ibom State.  He did his best and was among the top 10 contestants.  Likewise, Daniel Okoli our student in SS3 and another student from Federal Girls College Zaria represented the state in a MAN Mathematics competition in Rivers State, they both did well and came 3rd position.  Daniel also represented the State and the North West Region in a National Maths TV show in Abuja.  Out of the 36 states including Abuja, he was among the top 6 of 117 participants.

Furthermore, three of our students Abba Mshelia, George Bringham and Suleiman Sherif all in SS2 Technical; performed wonderfully in the NTA/ETV science competition in which we came top at the state level  competition and were selected to represent the state at the National Level. Their performance was great; to the Glory of God, they came second position in the Nation.  As a way of encouragement, management granted them tuition free award for second term of the 2019/2020 academic session.

The school is also doing well in sports.  This term, our students represented the school in a chess competition organized by Kaduna State Chess Association; their performance was excellent.  We beat all schools to emerge the overall winner.

Extra Curricular Activities

Extra curricular activities went on well in the school.  Different club activities were organized for the development of the students/pupils.  Some of the activities carried out were; Excursions, quizzes, debates, paper presentations, public speaking exercises and so on.

The Art and Languages Department organized an inter-school debate.  Two schools competed with us and we came first position.

Similarly, the Social Science Department organized a quiz competition.  Three schools were invited and at the end of the competition, we came second position.

Also, The Science Department through the JETS Club went for an excursion to Blue Camel Solar Company along Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) drive; it was very exciting and educating.

The Language Department through the Literary and Debating Club went to the Federal High Court, Kaduna for an excursion.

Academic Development

You are aware of our mentorship programme which was introduced to help give guidance, advice, assistance and prompt support  to all students.   The programme has been helping us to discover students and their potentials / problems. The school in collaboration with “Triple M” set up an Intervention Centre to profer solution to students with problems in various areas such as moral, academic, reading, writing, and speaking etc. This includes all students with phobia for maths and other related subjects.  We encourage all parents to take this opportunity for their wards with such problems.

We also informed you at the beginning of term that our pass mark is no longer 50%, it has been raised to 60% ; this means, students who score less than 60% at the end of the term have failed.  This is to ensure all students aim higher than the pass mark and perform better especially at external Examinations .

In order to make mathematics more interesting, the school has purchased mathematical games and mental maths techniques.  This will be introduced next term to JS 1 students.  It would be effected on their time-table on Friday and Saturday.  We wish to use medium to solicit your maximum cooperation please,  we will inform you when the Saturday lesson will commence.

School Development

You may be aware that we have been producing garri for our consumption, this is part of our diversification move.  Also, a water treatment plant was set up and supply of drinking water is now 24 hours.  Equally, we are pleased to inform you that our bakery has successfully taken off, serving bigger and better bread for our boarding students consumption.

School Fees Collections

The payment of school fee has slightly improved since the introduction of 100% payment before resumption.  We thank majority of our parents who complied and are prompt in payment of their fees.  However, we appeal to the few who pleaded for few weeks grace to pay their balances to do so before the beginning of the new term.  Tellers have been issued to that effect.

Open Day

The turnout at our last open day was impressive,   this means that we are walking and working together as a team for the benefit of the children.  For those who couldn’t make it we encourage you to do so next term as it is a great motivation to students and teachers alike.  .

School Uniform

We still insist on our children wearing the correct uniforms purchased in the school. Some of them especially in JS3, SS1, SS2 and SS3 are still using the uniforms they bought 2 to 3 years back.  They have overgrown them which make them look shabby, uncomfortable and indecent.  We encourage parents to get new ones for them.  Also, we have introduced joggers to their sport wear ; interested parents can visit the school for it.

Holiday Assignment

In order to keep students busy during the holidays as usual, our teachers have given take home assignments packaged in their envelopes, it is also on our WhatsApp platform .  Please ensure that they are fully engaged to avoid idleness.  As the saying goes, “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop”.

Conclusion

Finally, on behalf of the Management, staff of Great Panaf Schools, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2020 in advance.

School closed on the 13th December, 2019 and will  resume on the 12th January for boarders and 13th January, 2020 for day students . God’s willing.
